The Super Studio requires some assembly, which a parent will most likely have to do. Don't worry: set-up is simple. The PixOs Super Studio works by allowing kids to create art by using small balls called PixOs that will stick to each other if lightly sprayed with water and allowed to dry. There are different colored PixOs, and children create designs (using templates or with their own imagination) by using the "pen" to place the PixOs on a grid-like tray. An included "eraser" makes it easy to remove a misplaced PixO. After the child is done with a design, he or she lightly sprays it with water using the included spray bottle, and puts it underneath the fan to dry. When dry, the finished piece can be removed from the tray and placed it wherever you'd like. We made a cute, colorful cat, then gave her a dog for a playmate soon after. Once we understood how it worked, we were able to whip up new designs and art quickly. Just be certain that the designs are fully dry. It took a bit longer than we expected, and we accidentally ruined a cherry because we picked it up off the plate before the PixOs were sufficiently dry and stuck together. Please note that the PixOs are tiny. Although the recommended age on the box says four and up, we believe that children on the younger end of the scale might require supervision, especially if they are inclined to swallow things. Additionally, the fan requires two AA batteries to operate, but we found that the fan was too weak to really speed up the drying process; instead we placed our finished PixOs designs by an open window to save on batteries. Included are six template designs of varying degrees of difficulty that will help you get accustomed to using the studio. With the templates, kids can make strawberries, cherries, cats, dogs, and more! Some of the designs are three-dimensional, so they can stand on their own.  Hours of fun January 3, 2009
My kids 10 and 8 love this toy they create tons of "art" together. I would recommend it.
 Great toy, but could be better January 3, 2009
I bought this for my 5 yr old daughter for Xmas. She's been playing with it every day since. Personally, I don't think it's worth the money, but since she loves it and is getting alot of use out of it, that's all I can ask for. There are MANY cons: You get VERY few pixos balls in the super studio. It's a good thing I bought a refill pack or she would have been very disappointed when they were all used up. You also don't get many templates, so she got bored doing the same ones again & again. But we went online to [...] and created our own designs which was a great activity in itself. Another con is that after you spray your design, it takes a long time to dry and she broke many of her designs trying to get them out of the tray. All in all, she does love playing Pixos, but quite honestly, for the amount you pay for "super studio" there is nothing super about it. If you buy it, make sure you get refills at the same time! One more thing, if you have small children in your home, I would NOT suggest this toy. The tiny balls spill everywhere and the finished designs break apart easily, so a small child could find & ingest. They get sticky when wet and therefore could be dangerous.
Having fun with PixO's Studio January 2, 2009
After reading all of the reviews I was skeptical in purchasing this product. My son of 6 was asking and asking if he could have the studio after seeing it advertised on TV. I am glad I purchased this item for Christmas this year. My son has been loving this product. He has been doing a great job with a steady hand in putting the pixo's in the correct spot and following the patterns. Some of the patterns are a little bit more challenging and he has gotten a little frustrated and asked for help. The company has done a good job with the symbols of the patterns to let you know which patterns are easy and which ones are hard. My son has been patient but with the more challenging patterns as I mentioned I have helped him out. He has also gotten frustrated on if he bumps the station while trying to complete a pattern before spraying them the beads do come out of place. The he is having to almost redo the pattern. But he sticks with it to complete the pattern. I will agree with some of the other comments that not enough beads come with the studio and they do go quickly. After reading those reviews I stocked up on refills. It was pricey.
In addition, if they spill the beads do go everywhere. After completing a pattern I have sprayed them with water very generously. I have noticed though with the little fan and about 30 minutes they do tend release from the trays, but truly give them at least a couple of hours before they are actually really hard and then they will standup if 3D and feel more secure. I have had some beads not stick to each other when releasing the pattern from the tray but I have re-sprayed with water and then waited awhile to dry and then they hold. As the other comments mentioned to make sure all of the beads are touching. All in all I would recommend this product but I would say for 6 years and older. I can see how the younger children would get frustrated and not like the Pixo's.
 Worst toy, best marketing January 1, 2009
I gave in, like I am sure many parents did, to the demands of my chidren for Pixos after they were flooded by commericlas for the great fun they would have. This is one of the worse toys and crafts I have ever seen - and I have three girls so I have seen every craft out there. 1) it is very expensive - you need to buy constant refills for them to be able to make many designs, 2) the balls are so tiny that they are hard to move and many end up on the floor, 3) they take forever to dry and, 4) when they dry they have no real value. At least the little plastic things that you iron can be made into ornaments, but these are flimzy and can't be used for much since they will fall apart.
Do not waste you money on this item, no matter how much begging!!!!
Note that these were recalled by the Consumer Protection for having toxins last year - even though it was corrected, I would not have these around small children who might put them in their mouth!.

There are a couple of tricks that will make the project last better though, make sure you have more than 1 bead as the joint, use lots of water and dry for a long time.
My 5 and a half year old daughter BEGGED for these for Christmas. The first project we were dissappointed as it fell apart, after that we just kept trying more and more water. Now we figured out after making the project, get it fairly wet, let dry for about 15 mintutes, then useing a study note card, I transferred to design to saran wrap, saturate again and let dry overnight. I know it sounds like a lot of hassle, but it is not so bad, and my daugher loves it.
She loves to make her own designs instead of using the templates and if you can order those other beads, that will be WONDERFUL as the beads to go FAST!!!
